I hope someone here can help me out. I'm giving some thought to making my way to Texas this April for the bluebonnet bloom and I'm wondering if anyone can tell me what the likely peak date is and where the best photo opportunities lie.
What I do is look at when most of the photo workshops are for a given area and plan your trip then - and keep your fingers crossed since it really depends on the weather in that region during the year and local rainfall and other weather factors in the weeks leading up to the time - in other words, WHO KNOWS! But at least with the bluebonnets they do stick around a while so if it is a good year for them you will have a chance. Do some digging for workshops...By the way, I found them peaking in March one year when I was down there, so it is not always in April...
Kerry I haven't ever made it down to Hill Country but have looked into it some. The peak time is traditionally from april 1st through the 15th. The best resource is wildflowerhaven.com please check this site and the book hunting texas wildflowers would be well worth the money. Good luck with the wildflower hunting and if you do go please let me know how it was and where you went. I would really appreciate the information and would want to see your images.
Do you know where you want to go? There can be bluebonnets in such a large area of central Texas; from Brenham up to Ennis or Fredricksburg which is north of San Antonio. We do things big in Texas you know. You can also check the Texas Highways website for info.

Thanks for the replies, everyone. I appreciate it.
I wasn't really sure where I was going to go--other than Brenham. I was open to suggestions...and based on what I've been able to determine, last week in March/first week in April sounds as though it's the likely peak period for this area...which is sooner than I'll be able to make it. So, it sounds as though I'm going to have to defer the trip until next year or the year after. The only silver lining is that it should give me plenty of time to plan.
