Getting Soaked
I am posting this image more for the story than than the image (I am pretty sure I have better ones from this weekend). This was the closest though I have come yet to get knocked straight on my you know what in the water with a backpack full of gear and camera in hand. It took me a while to learn that if you are not getting wet with your seascape images chances are you are not close enough, but this series of waves almost changed my mind on this theory! Less than 3 sec after this image was taken the water was well past my knees and strong. Anyway, I stood my ground and all my gear is AOK.

As always all comments are appreciated.

I don't know if this is your best one from there but I like it. The water flow does it for me. Hope you have good insurance if you keep this up!

While we were exploring the coast, Jack got a little too close as well...water up to his knees. I've been there too, but didn't get wet this time!

Sometimes, as I've heard it said, you must "suffer for your art!"

The correct technique is hit the shutter, then run like heck out your planned escape route. Otherwise, at least make sure there is no drift wood around. It doesn't take much water to move large large logs around in a hurry. Also, it isn't easy to judge whether the water is going to be knee or waist deep.

Adrian,
Be careful out there. Looks like your efforts paid off. I like how the sky looks natural.

I think I'll stick to hip waders in knee-deep mountain streams. At least they don't come at you like a freight train. You can see this in your image, Adrian; your risky efforts are reflected in the surging appearance of the middle ground seas. Interesting horizon color.

I feel like I am there experiencing this...

I always tell people that I have 10,000 + images in my files and about 10 good ones. About 8 of the 10 were shot in crappy conditions. Such is life!
IO really get the feeling of being there in this image! Nice one.

Wow, Adrian! You are one strong dude. I FEEL overpowered and swept away, gear and all, just by looking at this stunning image. Good grief, man, I didn't think photography was a high impact, extreme sport!

HA!! That is sooooooooooooooooo true Adrian and sooooo dangerous!! I have had more than a few close calls of my own involving MOVING WATER!!

The image might not be your best but I still like it and TOTALLY understand the drive to getting THE IMAGE!!

Thanks eveyone for the comments so far. I agree this is not a great image and I definitely only posted it for the feeling it gave with the incoming wave and the story of me getting soaked. Although it was not the most productive weekend on the coast I did get one or two that might be worth posting when I get to processing them!

And yes I do have a good biz insurance policy... I used to be an agent so if I didn't I only have myself to blame since I know better!

nice in your face image.......I just feel that the rocks in the foreground are a bit soft.....

Adrian-I like the wave action, especially in the upper mid-ground, and the tightly cropped sky. I'm not totally sold on the foreground...The left seems a bit empty, and the rocks feel a bit chopped to me. Not a bad image though, just not one of your best.
