Mallard flight ( with the mk111 so fingers crossed )
Hi to all,

Female mallard in flight , photographed this morning at Fairburn Ings , this was the first real chance i've had to test the mk111 for flight shots , first impressions don't seem too bad , this image is the second of a three shot burst with the first and third images being out of focus but I think thats down to my crap technique so well see how things progress over the coming weeks , thanks for looking.

Converted in DPP / Processed in CS2

Canon 1Dmk111 , 500F4IS + 1.4T/c , Gitzo1325 , Wimberley v2
1/1600th @ F8 iso640 +1/3rd E/comp RAW ( Servo + centre focus point over the eye )

All comments welcome

wow, looks spot on to me too. The tricky bit is getting the AF point anywhere near the eye of a fast moving duck! This is a great shot.

Hi Andrew,

Looks good to me, but as a fellow Mark3 owner i would like to challenge you to test the Mark3 on flightshots with more cluttered BG's so no Sky and no Water and also in Ai Servo with all focuspoints active.
I have had the experience that when shooting above water of with sky as a BG it works fine but when BG's get a bit cluttered (such as reed stems in the BG) i am having loads of problems getting a sharp image.

Curious how that goes with your Mark3!

Greetings,

Jeroen Stel

Hi Andrew
Looks like a good'un-Agree with Jeroen and also in really bright conditions my MK3 is very inconsistant-trying to get it changed as we speak

IMO, perfect in every detail. Love the muted grey background - adds something different to the typical blue sky shot. :toast: :toast:

I keep coming back for another look at this fab photo - love everything about it, from the perfect BG right down to the two water droplets. If I can come away with anything of this quality from my lovely new 1D3 then I'll be a happy chap

Pleased to hear the new camera is producing the goods. The photographers skill looks none too shabby either.
