I dont know how many of you ( probably more than I realize) know that there as an effort underway to put a casino in Cascade Locksm Oregon. I have to believe this will add lots of traffic, air pollution and people, and all that casinos bring to the area. I guess it doe bring in extra income. Is this a good thing? Being relatively new to the area, my first inclination it to say it isn't.
I am totally against this. It's very sad to see so many gambling places all over the place already. I have sent email to my congressman that I oppose this proposal. The CRG needs protected and something like this will only bring trouble.
The Indian Trust Land, the place where they CAN build a casino is in Hood River. The lots are almost unbuildable so they've decided to try to build the casino in Cascade Locks. There has never been an "off-trust-land" Indian casino built anywhere in the US and the Secretary of the Interior would have to okay it.
So far, the Sec of I. is not leaning towards it. The tribe have been working on this plan for 10 years already and I'm sure it will be another 10 before anything definite happens.
Personally, if they wanted to build their casino in Hell, that would be fine with me.

Jack, thanks for the post on this. You only need to see one big sticker on my car to know where I stand "NO CASINO in the gorge". I cannot imagine how bad this will be for the CRG but I know it's bad, in respect to the enivornment, traffic, and quality of life that is. Anyone that opposes this please speak out on this now! There has been talk about building this casino for 10 years now and it seems it's coming to a possible reality unfortunately.
As I type this it is up for public review, hearings being held starting this last Monday through 3/17 at 5 different locations. Here are some links for folks that want more info on this subject and or to speak out against this:

A large Vegas sized casino coming to the heart of the CRG would definitley have an impact to any of us that enjoy going out there as photographers and hikers. They estimate about 3 million visitors annually would visit this casino.
I am not opposed to development but this one just makes zero sense to me!
I'm pretty much a let-you-do-with-your-own-land-what-you-will kinda guy, but within reason. The casino isn't even close to reason IMO. The traffic would be horrendous. With more traffic comes more noise. so much for a peaceful hike in the gorge.
Then there's the drunks leaving the casino... Holy Crap! I-84 at night in the rain is bad enough sober, and now they want to add more drunks to that road??? Forget it! I'll take SR14!!!

And that, IMO, is exactly where they belong! You sure got that right.
There is an ongoing effort to try and establish a casino adjacent to the Aurora airport (where the golf course currently is). That would be an off-trust-land casino too and I just can't agree with that either!
