Tufted ducks on a mission.
Canon 1d2N, 600mm f4 is, 1/2500s, f7.1, EC -1 1/3, Flash -1 2/3. iso 400, tripod.

I was looking at Magnus' post of tufted ducks and reading the critique. I had similar problems trying to expose these a few days ago. Very few came out right and this is as close as I got. Interested to hear what you think. I have to say the settings were chosen pretty randomly!

Hi Ian,

This is nice. Looks like the blacks held well here with detailed retained, the whites have less detail but not hot! These birds, as said many times are an exposure nightmare! You've done well here! Love the beak!

Mind you I think you could have gotten away with a lower ISO reducing the shutter speed a tadge! Then you wouldn't have needed to dail in such a big EC! Nice use of flash though!

Like this better than the usual side ways on approch. Well done and especially with the use of flash. :toast:

great composition, I really like the OOF duck in the background. Nicely exposed too.

Like this a lot, especially the texture in the blacks.
