Chinese Water Deer
Hi all.
Since moving to Norfolk 16 months ago these deer, despite many sightings, have remained elusive to me, so I was amazed to come across this brave and curious chap today. It was after sunset so shutter speeds were horrendously slow, but he did quite a few static poses for me, and, with cat-like stealth(!), I managed to get within twenty feet of him.
These are getting quite numerous in my area and becoming a bit of a problem with traffic - there were five dead within a mile stretch the other day - and many people are talking of culling them. The sticking point is that they're a protected species. Habitat loss in their native China means that Britain now holds - according to radio 4 - upto 25% of the worlds population!
Not the worlds most original comp and the lighting is uninspiring but a shot I'm pleased with it because of the subject matter.
Canon 1dMkIIN, 100-400 @ 400mm, f5.6, 1/60th, handheld (and many, many deleted shots!) iso640 (hence a fair bit of noise)
