So I had just put the Lacie monitor on a brand new conference style table section. The legs had wheels. The fastening at the top of the leg let go, the leg tucked in under the table, the monitor rolled off the collapsing table.
Hooked everything up and the monitor seems to be in good working order, good colour, sharpness etc. I'd ask the tech wizards if there is anything I might be looking for that would indicate the monitor might be about to melt down.
Look for signs that there are no images on the screen. General pure darkness could signal impending doom. Clearly photos of known beautiful models showing up looking like your great grandmother would indicate your circuits are fried. Note that a smoking monitor may only indicate a hot image is being viewed. Look closely at a crack on the screen to be sure this is not an image. Aside from all that, check for a pool of oozing electrons coming out the back of the monitor.
Glad to hear the monitor seems to be ok. Living in the NWT should help prevent excessive heat
Cheers

Lacie Monitor, huh? send it to me and I'll check it out...I'll need it for a year or so!!! You are a lucky dude I'd say.I heard oozing electrons make good snacks.
"...heard oozing electrons make good snacks." I heard that, too. I also heard that oozing positrons and electrons like to snack on each other! When that happens...Poof! Your monitor goes bye-bye!
Seriously, I'd keep a close eye on that monitor: It may talke awhile for damage to rear its ugly head.

Any signs of excessive heat, strange odor(s), smoke, and/or any noise (crackling or buzzing)that sounds like arcing.

CRT. Have had it running all day today with no smoke! I'd say sometimes you do get lucky; but that might be tempting fate!
