Lick Branch is a small stream in the Mulberry River drainage, near the southern edge of the Ozarks. Many on this board probably know about it, because there is an Ozark Highlands Trailhead beside it. "Lick Branch with snow" has been on my wish list for several years now, so that's where I headed Friday morning. Actually there wasn't enough snow, and too much water, for the shot I've been imagining; but that just means I get to go back some day. Your comments and critique are appreciated.
John,
I like what you've done with the shot. I think the right side seems a bit clipped, the water doesn't seem to have quite enough space to move into. Despite not a lot of snow, it still has a nice wintry feel. Nice job.
Hey John beautiful capture. You did a nice job on B/W conversion. Nice details in the creek. Glad you got to get out and enjoy the great day of snow we had.

Hey, John, I figured they would have had you chained to your workstation, but I'm glad to see you made it out Friday. It was a great day to be in the woods, with the biggest problem being deciding among all the great places to go.
I see why you placed the left edge where you did, but maybe if you had stepped to the right a little, things would have lined up so that you could still get everything on the left while including more on the right. You did remember to bring your wading sandals, right?
Anyhow, beautiful shot of a beautiful scene. Were you wanting to shoot the area with all the boulders?
I've heard a lot of good things about Lick Branch, and can see why. This is really a beautiful place. I have been wanting to explore the Mulberry a little more, but need to check on the access. Very nice, John.
Nice winter comp, just enough snow to make things interesting and a nice blur to the water. I like the B&W treatment, you get a real wintry feel looking at the image.
Randy - Shame on me for leaving the crocs in the truck. But I doubt I would have used them anyway... I just didn't feel that little cascade was worth it. And yes, the area with the big boulders was the reason I went there in the first place. But there wasn't much snow in that scene.
Bill - Lick Branch is a small, short stream with just a few really nice spots, but it's right next to the road which is good for brief trips before or after work. You'd probably want to come down Hwy 23, then turn east onto Hwy 215 which follows the Mulberry River for ten miles before you'd turn off and head north toward Lick Branch. You'd be passing by the High Bank Twins waterfall along the way.

The nice part that John is talking about is on the right side of the road just before you get to the OHT Lick Branch trailhead. You'll find directions in the Ernst OHT trail guide as well.

black and white conversion is very nice.

How'm I doing, Tim?
