I mean Haw Creek, dang it!
While I wish there had been a little more snow near the creek, I was still happy with the way this one came out. I only had to wipe the dripping snow and water off my filter four or five times before I got a decent shot. I can also attest to Nikon's build quality...the moisture seals work! There were two BIG globs of snow that fell on the top of my camera while I was set up at this location, and she kept on tickin'.

This is only one of several, or should I say many, I took over the last two days, covering 616 miles. I hope to process more in a few days...after I get my taxes done.

Fantastic shot Bill! I can be jealous and say ... I wish it were mine! :toast:

Gorgeous photo, Bill. I must add that your processing and save-for-web methods are superb; there's more detail there than I thought possible from a web photo. Where on the Little Piney did you take this?

This is great, Bill. The water has an "interesting silkiness" to it. Really well maintained textures throughout. Can't wait to see more from your travels.

Bill, fantastic shot of a neat little creek. I love the textures in the water and the way the stream leads you from left to right. I know you have more shots from your travels, so I am looking forward to seeing them!

Bill you did a great job on this one. I love the details in the water of this little drop and colors of the snow on the trees in the far background. I was pleasantly suprised to see some leaves still on the trees in this valley.

PS I respected you by not shooting here also.

Thanks, guys. John - this was taken at the parking lot for those people that hike up to Pam's Grotto. Gale - I appreciate your respect, but it wouldn't bother me if you photographed this scene too. I think pretty much all of us go to places that others have previously photographed, so I don't feel that I should have any exclusivity rights to this, or any other spot. Fire away!

Oops! I guess that's why they call that waterfall just upstream Haw Creek Falls! I had been driving way too long and had seen Little Piney Creek on the Forest Service map and the bridge crossing as I was coming back for more yesterday, and since the highway seems to follow it for a ways further to the south...well, must have been my diet of sunflower seeds and Girl Scout cookies all day. Thanks Tim.

I don't care what you call it. This is just beautiful. Just the right amount of snow and a good angle on the creek. Well done Bill.

Excellent!

Yes, a beautiful job. Did you make it over to Haw Creek Falls while you were there?
Posted by Bill Dark on March 10, 2008 at 12:41 PM
Randy - I did go over to the falls, but there was a huge tree down in the background that would not have added much to the composition. It was still a nice scene though...
