Anyone know how Picket Wire Canyon conditions are regarding snow? Considering a drive down there tomorrow (Mon - Mar 10) and hike. Near as I can tell, last nights snows were minimal in that area, but not sure how much tends to be in the canyon this time of year!
Also, is the forest service road to the trailhead normally drivable this time of year (4 wheel drive, chevy trailblazer here)... dont mind hiking, but just as soon avoid the 3 mile each way hike to the trail head, makes for many many miles by days end when combined with canyon hike!
Thanks a bunch!

Showalter might be able to answer this is he gets home in time. My concern would be mud.
Yes, mud would be the only real concern, and i doubt its much of an issue right now, its been pretty dry for a while. I seriously doubt it would be a problem.
Call the LaJunta USFS office (Timpas unit). They'll tell you everything you need to know. The road to the TH is open all year, but turns to gumbo when wet and it's not advisable - particularly after snow melts. I'm guessing after this dry spell that you could make it. Again the USFS will give you the whole scoop.
