Different and very very nice. Was it taken in a studio or in-situ? :toast: :toast: :toast:

Hello Tom and thanks for the comment.

The photo was taken in its natural enviroment. I was out very early looking for dragonflies covered in dew. I found this fellow in the long grasses were the dragonflies usally perch. It was taken just as the sun was riseing and I used my lowpro bag to put a shadow on the grasses just behind the caterpillar. Just as I was setting up the shot he put him self in this position for a couple of seconds before straightening again. :wavey:

I don't usually comment on macro, but, my goodness, this has to be one of the best macro's I have seen!

I'm very much enjoying your posts with this one being no exception.
The light quality and the way the colours jump out at you is outstanding, as is the caterpillars pose and the covering of water droplets.
A superb image and very inspiring indeed.

Guy,

Thanks for the reply,
It was the BG that made me think Studio and the lighting on the water droplets; not that with macro I have any concerns about studio or in-situ, for a lot of stunning macro work usually has the subject being positioned, controlled, or contrived to some extent in the wild.

Again - a different and very very nice image.. :toast: :toast:

Stunning - just stunning. Turn it round the other way to make a question mark and you have a headline image for a 'what is the future for butterfly conservation' type article. Great tip that about the bag. I shall probably have to buy a bigger one now!
