Greater Spotted Woodpecker. January 2008
Wyre Forest Worcestershire
A regular visitor to the small pool where I,ve had a hide for over thirty years. D200 Sigma 100-300mm. 800 ISO . 60th second.Camera on low contrast. Adjusted slightly in Paint Shop Pro and Neat image to remove a little noise.

Very interesting shot, not something you see every day I guess! Would have loved a lower angle though

Thanks all.
Helge.
I can't lower the hide without re building the whole thing and it's sunk
into the ground a foot as it is . This woody was right at the fron too which accentuates the angle somewhat. I have another pool at eye level but had problems with reflections taking up too much of the shot. They had to be upright crops if you see what I mean.
Cheers

Hi John
Very nice opening image look forward to seeing more of your work!
Very nice. Agree with the comments about the angle of view but then sometimes you have to take what you see. I always prefer to see a new / different type of shot to the 'standard' pictures and this is certainly different so a big thumbs up from here.

Wecome to the forum John. You must have quite an impressive collection of images from your thirty years at your hide.
A fine image to begin with and great to see a G.S. Woodpecker in a slightly different setting than the norm.

Very good, not something you see very often.
A lower viewfpoint would have made the pic a winner...you might be able to go back and do it again perhaps!!

I could do it again but I would have to destroy a permanent wooden hide and build another !
-and there's no gaurantee I,d get the bird in the same position again anyway.. !
I don't like a viwpoint being too low as it seems slightly un natural to me - like the ground level wader shots which are all the craze at the moment.. Its an angle we as humans wouldn't see the birds from . - I suppose a fox might !!
