Had a lucky encounter with this beautiful stoat the other day. I was lying next to a hedge and out of the corner of my eye saw this stoat working its way down the hedge row towards me. As it got closer I made a sound like a Rabbit in distress and he came for closer look. Great to see one.

Super Danny, any Stoat shot is an accomplishment, but this is also good

Very Nice. The squealing rabbit works for foxes pretty efficiently as well. I was shown how to do it by an old gamekeeper when I was a child: However he shot it rather than photographed it

If you cant squeak them up by mouth try one of those little squeaky dog toys. Gamekeepers use these as well. Also good for getting the attention of your subject.

Nice one Danny. Agreed about the harsh light but its one more Stoat than I've ever managed so I'm not complaining!

Hello Major
Thats a cracking tip because sometimes you just can't get the sound right sound more like a demented mouse Might get one of them if you know of any particular sought let me know, Agree about the harsh light which was a shame just wanted to share the experience as I have not had many opportunities to photograph them.

Hi Danny
Encounters with these in the wild are few and far between - you have made a good job of sharing your moment with us!
Beautiful indeed. I need to practise this sound, because a local has told me where to find a stoat in my neighbourhood - might take a while! If I ever see him, I'll be happy - if I get anything nearly as good as this, I'll be ecstatic
Nice shot Danny, not got a picture of a stoat yet, i'm most envyous!

Hi Danny
Very envyous, these are so difficult to get shots of and you have made best use of the the light you had. I've seen one twice now where the Water Voles are but haven't a clue how to get a shot, fast little buggers.
What a great oppurtunity and one you've seized well judging from the result. Only ever seen one twice so I can only imagine just what a thrill it is to get such an excellent glimpse of one.
