Hi folks,
Has anyone here heard of any issues with the EOS 5D? I have had one since August '07 and have been really pleased with it. However, today I reviewed some Africa shots and noticed a weird linear noise on a few of the images. This link should take you to a section of the image that I have blown up to magnify the problem. Any ideas what has caused this?
Hi Elliott they suffer from electrical interference generated by a few of Canon's lenses the image clearly shows the regular interference pattern from either the USM motor or image stabilising, the other thing that I seen reported a few times is that the mirror can become detached as it is only glued to the frame and not glued and crimped like a lot of other models.
I believe the banding can be repaired as it is a design fult with the lenses, you can also say the camera to as it has insufficient shielding.

Do you see this only in out of focus areas? I had the same problem with the old Canon D60 and the reason was an effect from a skylight filter that was attached to the lens.
not a noise issue, but for people interetsed in better quality prime wide angle lenses the 5D mirror assembly does not have a consistant build tolerence, as a result there can be mirror cleaarnce issues when using 'legacy' wide angle lenses, many of the Zeiss wide angles and some Leica wide angle lenses rear elements foul the mirror swing, Either shave the mirror bottom (not easy) slightly or use Oly OM lenses such as the 18mm, 21mm and 24mm Oly OM Zuikos (and be astounded at the difference in edge resolution)

Thanks for responding. I have also sent the image to CPS and will post their response here.
Hi Tom, Thanks for the link. I don't think this is the "banding" that I have read about. That seems to be more of a moire issue in tonal ranges than this tightly packed linear noise.
Phil, I agree this does seem like frequency interference. Using a 70-200 and 100-400 resulted in this noise. A did have a guide tapping away on a mobile phone as well?
Javier, the lines run from edge-to-edge across the entire image
Mike, have not had any trouble with my 16-35mm
