Solway Sunrise
Taken recently on the way back to Ireland.
I always aim for the mid morning sailing as it allows me to stop of Caerlaverock on the Solway estuary very early morning.
The image is obvioulsy shooting straight at the position the sun is about to rise from, all I had to do is wait for the birds (Barnacle Geese in this case) to appear and cross the frame. The 1ds3 produces a wonderful Velvia quality image naturally in low light conditions.
Prefocused just past the trees as the geese when in a field about 100 yards beyond, DOF did the rest.

Hi Tom,

This is beautiful. Lovely colours and silhouette. The geese add that something extra to it!

Hi Tom,

It's a lovely image being spoilt by those power lines IMHO. It's a real shame that they have been put up in what looks like a stunning location.

How's the 1ds3 performing??

Nice image Tom

Rob, the power lines happen to be the aerial array that speaks to the British nuclear submarine fleet at ultra low frequency. When photographing on the Solway the trick is how to avoid them

Rob,

Re Aerials. It is amazing the amount of different ways people see one image.

To me this is a Man and Nature image, for I think without the aerials there is not enough "subject" in the geese alone to hold the image together.

In essence it is not an image of Geese at sunrise on an estuary with some aerials, but a Man and Nature image of Aerials at sunrise on the Solway estuary with some geese. These aerials say ... Solway.

The 1DS3 is fine and given the feedback recieved from customers it is definately worth the upgrade.

Hi Tom & Brian,

Excuse my ignorance as to what the aerials are. Tom, understand the image now and think you have executed the image very well.
