very nice, lovely and sharp! A great sighting too, I normally just see them disappearing into the undergrowth

Nice one and quite unusual light body colouring... am assuming a male.

Lovely shot of an animal I see very little of. I don't know if it is just the monitor I'm using but the colour of the snake doesn't look quite right to me. I can't put my finger on what it is. The foliage detail / colouration looks OK. Do grass snakes vary much in colour?

Hi It's a nice image but I would like to see all the grass snake.

Phil.

Hello Robert the Grass snake is a female and can be lighter than the males, although this is the lightest one I have come across. This was taken at first light so I might be getting a warm light which is showing on the snakes body.

Hello Phillip I wanted to do a closeup of the Grass snake but include more than just the head, but at the same time make the head shot the main part of the picture. I have done the same shot with all the body has well but it dose seem to lose the impact of a closeup.

Thanks for your comments. :wavey:

Wow...just wonderful. Is it a settup?

Hello Paula.

No its not a setup I found the Grass Snake on whats left of an old Silver Birch which is now totaly covered in moss. The snake allowed me half an hour before moving on.

Thanks for your comment. :wavey:

Excellent, beautiful detail in those scales and a fine composition.

Nice image but the colour looks somehow less green than it should be. You were lucky to have the time for a cable release too ! A great image though and I reckon could be even better if the head was to the left more( would possibly include more body too )
Cheers

Excellent shot. The way the light is picking out the snake from the slightly darker surroundings works really well. I stumbled across a pair of grass snakes a couple of times last week, not managed to get close enough yet though.
