The UK group Pro Imaging has created a "Bill of Rights" for photographers and photo contests. They are currently submitting letters to contests as an attempt to help create more contests that are less rights grabbing. I find it pretty straight forward and kind of interesting.

I also find it interesting that they haven't found a contest that meets all of their terms yet. (Although I think this is fairly new.)

Just thought some here might be interested...

I've seen that.

I like the idea of it, but realistically, I don't really see it having any effect. The attitude of a lot of these organizations/companies/sponsors is why bother? Look at all of these great photos we are getting for FREE!

I really hope I am wrong about its influence, but profitability bonuses go far towards making this behavior 'acceptable'.

Dan - I don't think that this, in and of itself, will have much effect. But if it continues to spread the word to photographers, and competitions start getting less/worse entires, it may start to change things. The entries, or lack of them, would be the real motivating factor in that case. At the end of the day, though, there may be enough people that don't care about the terms that this just won't matter.
