Hello all,

This is a little OT, but since a lot of us play in the Gorge, I thought I'd let y'all know about the meeting at the Double Tree Hotel in PDX regarding the casino in the Gorge. I wasn't able to go inside the room itself since it was full to capacity, but while I was in line there was a show outside as well.

It was interesting to hear the Cascade Locks town leaders try their very best to convince/allay any and all detractors from putting in a 65 city block sized casino in an otherwise small, quiet space near the Cascade Locks.

What I did find interesting was a lot of talk about how much money it would produce for everyone, and that it would also use some of that money to help clean up the Gorge area. What I didn't hear, though, is how they really plan to do this with a very small environmental impact, and since they have been good stewards for the past few hundred years, we should allow them this one casino.

To say the least, I was surprised how many pro-casino stickers I saw there tonight. Both the Cascade Locks town leaders and the tribe were fully in attendance to support the casino. The Friends of the Gorge claimed to have many thousands of written disapprovals (and I have sent emails), but if you do think this casino in the Gorge is a bad idea, I think it's important that you speak up now.

Sorry to make this political statement, but I, for one, don't want to go to the Gorge and wish it were the quiet, out of the way hike it used to be.

There is one more meeting coming up on Monday in Hood River. The public input is important - the government will use this to make a decision to allow this or not.

Kevin, thank you for posting this! I was thinking about it last night. Yesterday was my son's b-day and I had promised him something fun with his friends long before that was scheduled at the Double Tree. I was unable to make but I have voiced my concerns from emails to the stickers on my car. I really wish it won't happen but seems the opposition is small which is very sad IMO. Once that Casino goes up you can't go back to the way it "used to be", it will be changed for good. :frown:
