My name is Branden Michaux. I had contacted Jim and Garth a number of months ago regarding NENP membership and was advised to intrduce myself at that time so I am a bit overdue. I reside in Bristol, RI and I work in the city of Providence as a / Social Worker / Advocate for the homeless in RI. I became involved in photography a couple years ago after facing a few tradgies which occured in a very narrow time frame. The photography was and remains a therapy for me. It forced me to stop and smell the roses. I began to see myself through my photography and in turn restructured my life. I love nature and especially birds I am still educating myself with regards to photography and NPN is a great learning resource. I also have an affinity for Native American history and culture and am currently teaching myself the Lakota language. Thats me in a nutshell I am looking forward to some new friendships here!!
Welcome Branden. I agree with your description of how photography can be used as "therapy." When life throws you unexpected curves, photography is definitely a steadying fixture. Perhaps a group can meet in the great state of RI and you can show us around. Know there are great beaches, lighthouses, birding, in addition to the mansions of Newport.

Welcome Branden. If you're ever coming over to the NY Capital District - Albany, Schenectady, Saratoga area - give us a shout and we'll show you around some of our favorite areas.
Glad to see you on NENP forum. We do have some good avian photographers in the northeast and maybe one of them will pull together a gathering for bird photographers during the spring migration season.

I'm another Rhode Islander that's new to NENP and a former Newporter as well. I think it would be great if we could try and get people together down here and show them the huge bounty of our little state.
