Rumored announcement date for the replacement is April 22nd. I'd wait. If you look at the work done with the camera, it seems to be a no-brainer for landscape work (no, I don't use it, I'm in the Nikon camp).

Hehe. As I said, it's a rumor, not an official fact you should rely on, though.

I have a Canon 5D and I love it! I wish it had the overhead flash sometimes because sometimes I want a little fill flash but don't want to mess with having to get my flash out and put it on. It is a great landscape camera though. I have learned a lot from Don George about photography and my camera. I think the 5D is very easy to maneuver through the menus and overall I really like it. Good luck!

Hmmm, an April release would be interesting. On the other hand, the last several better digitals Canon has released have been pretty tough to get quickly. April might be cutting things close for Spring and early summer. I am waiting until early May, if for no other reason than I should come close to recovering from being unemployed by then (plus it would make a nice birthday present for me ) .

FWIW, the rumors I had been seeing until earlier this month were March 19 for an announcement, and previously the Spring photo show, whatever that was. I'll probably buy what is available at the time I purchase, 5D or its successor.

I have a Sinar view camera because I like the big sharp size. My digital one is a EOS 5D however and I can only recommend it. Tack-sharp even by means of a large-format-photographer.

Dear Rob, I have just started using the 5D and I'm enjoying it. I've used 20D before also, and a bunch of Nikon too. The pros are obvious. I think the main thing is bigger sensor = more dust. If you are not in a hurry, I would wait for the 5D upgrade. This will most likely have antidust features as the 40DX has this already.
