Took this last year while up at Mayflower Gultch. I've gone back and forth on it since then. I like the slope cutting across the clouds that really were that blazing orange. But then I think it's missing something that I can't put my finger on.
So, thoughts? Suggestions? Condemnations? Thanks!

Yea. Everybody needs a few bold, yet simple sunsets in their arsenal.
Matt, definitely yea. That being said, i find it considerably nicer as a panorama, with the top cropped so that the lhs treetops is the same distance from the top as the rhs treetops are from the bottom. The strength of the shot is its simplicity and bold, graphical statement. By balancing the two sides, you make the shot symmetrical and much more forceful, and all you lose is that bright band of color at top, which isnt too different than the rest of the brightly colored clouds.

This is what I really like about this forum. When I looked at the image, my first thought was this is a darn good image, then I read Stans comment about the crop so I moved the image up on the screen to simulate the pano and yeah, it looks even more awesome. Thanks for sharing that Stan.
What Todd said. I don't think it's missing anything, it's simply a more simple sunset than if you had a mountain or other prominent subject. Here, the sunset IS the subject as opposed to enhancing the subject. Works for me. Pano would be cool, too, but I prefer this presentation as it suggests an even more expansive scene, and that suggestion balances out the lack of a strong "subject".

Yea for me too, the color makes a bold statement on its own. The detail in the trees is also quite nice. I think either crop or not crop works. I'd like to see what it looks like as a print!

Yea. Great orange color. Graphically simple, yet effective. I agree with Rick concerning the pano issue.

Definitely a yea, and I like Stan's crop suggestion.

Very bold and colorful image. I think the 'something' that it could be missing is something you had no control over and that is a distinct cloud pattern. I still think this is good and would be proud to have one like it myself.

I agree with everyone here. YEA!! Jeff said it right! The something you are missing here was something you had no control over. This is a keeper in my book....I love how the trees draws the shapes against the colorful bright sky.... regards, Rajeev.
Thanks everyone for taking time to look and reply. I really appreciate it. And the overwhelming consensus is that this is a 'yea'. I like the look of a very symmetrical crop and I like extended clouds. I'll have to go back to the original raw file and play some more because if I remember correctly, there were more clouds but they weren't as bright or saturated. Anyhow, thanks again for the help!

I'm neither Yea or nay. I'm of the mind to say HELL YEAH! Like Todd said everyone needs that Bold yet Simple shot! I know I do!

it's an incredible shot! I see the pano suggestion, but for me it's good either way. I tend to think it would be a shame to crop out any of that blazing orange sky.
