Have had a few hours over the last few days to get out and take a few shots. It has been very production for the spotting point of view (buzzards (rare in southern Ireland), hen harriers, sparrowhawk running after teal in a lake margin). Of course none of these I was set up for. This afternoon went back to my local site where I saw a male hen harrier yesterday. No harriers but found this guy was having a sleep in the sun. First time I ever attempted photographing a fox. This is a fairly big crop (around 50%. 40D, Sigma 500mm mangled in Elements 2.0

You've still held nice detail in the eye's/head for a 50% crop
I sharpened up the head a bit. Unfortunately I could not get any closer. I managed to stalk him the first 50m because he was asleep. But the terrain (recently felled spruce plantation) was too rough to be quiet. So I had to annouce my presence, we had 10 minutes of mutual viewing and as I tried to get closer he was gone.
Well I was out today with same combo but have never had the opportunity to catch up with Mr Fox. So you did pretty well. Even though I would see at least a couple every day on my way to work and this morning within 3/4 mile of the centre of Belfast.

Well it's come out of the mangle quite well Michael - I like the comp and I think his body posture is great - nicely shot

Looks like a nice example in good condition making a great shot. Wish my local foxes were in such good condition let alone allow me close enough for such a nice shot.
Well done, ANdy

Really good eye contact that holds you to the fox inspite of the surroundings.
Cheers for all the feedback folks here is a slight variation of the pose

I'm not sure that I don't prefer the second just for the sly look on his face. fine shots both.
One ran across the road in front of me this am in broad daylight outside the Cov City stadium.
Couldn't wait to get away I expect, rode his luck right across 6 lanes of traffic, but he wasn't anywhere near as handsome as this fellow. Stilll made my day though. Eric

I love the look on the fox's face in the second post.
Well done with both shots.
