Looks very sharp and nicely processed as usual. Wouldn't mind one on my feeders

Really nice portrait with fine detail. Background is fine. These wee chaps have only just reached us up here and are still regarded as quite exotic. Looking forward to getting some at my feeder.

Great to see one of these from a different angle Andy. Just wish there were a few around South Lincs.

Nice to see a different pose from one of these and lovely and sharp as well.
Just find the OOF branch a little distracting.

Lovely picture Andy,
I have tried to get something a bit different from Nuthatches as we see so many "classic" poses. Yours is excellent and I have no problem with the background detail. If I was being awkward and 101% picky the missing tail edge is all I would mention.
Nice one Andy, I too though am not keen on the OOF perch in fg...

Nice shot Andy and I like the BG.

Hi Andy,
Superb shot! The perch is different! - Not too sure about it being out of focus though!

Cracking shot, Andy - background looks fine to me. Comp works well.

Great definition, a beauty. Oof perch is a shame, but I'll have it if you don't want it. Checked out your site again the other day, you've got plenty of top quality nutties there for sure. Eric

Andy
I am probably spoilt but I have three pairs of these in front of the kitchen all day.
Can't get my head around the big blurred perch in the foreground though in this pic..
Cheers

John - it's easy to get your head around really - focal lengths of this size have no depth of field, which is a pain in the butt.
But you cannot produce images like this any other way - using shorter focal length for increased DoF just means that you have a smaller degree of magnification and so you need to start cropping.
Seeing as my work has shifted more towards stock that's the last thing I want to start doing seeing as every library on the planet wants 48Mb files.
Cheers for the feedback though - and yes I agree, the OoF FG is a bit too much with the knobbly bit that sticks out.
I think the bird itself looks great but I find the out of focus area of perch just a little to prominent and distracting.
If this was at a feeding station perhaps turning the perch 90 degrees so it's side-on to the camera would work.
Nice pose and background though.

Hi Justin - yep, that's the baby - did it the following day!
I got some nice shots from the session though with birds landing more towards the camera - it's only this one sequence of shots where Nutty decided to be awkward, and I only kept it because the tiff is tack sharp and the pose is nice.
I might actually have a go at doing a clone job on the knobbly bit at 16bit tiff level - but then again I might not bother as it's stock-bound and if it gets used the OoF area will more than likely get obliterated with text over-print anyway.

I was trying to get some decent shots of Coal tits but this little bugger just bullies them something shocking.
Bit too much definition in the BG if I'm honest even though I checked it with the DoF preview. (Top Gear Top Tip there)
