Common Snipe Shropshire.
About as close as I could manage on the Sigma 300mm. Done the same day as the Kingfisher - same hide. Camera on tripod though not hanging on string from hide roof.
500 ISO late afternoon low sun patchy.
F11 Camera low contrast.
Bit of adjustment in Paint shop Pro.

Hi John,
Very nice! So this is full frame then? If so superb composition!

Not far off Paul. Bit off ends to get the birds head about middle.

Neat to catch one out wading in the gloop. Not sure if you need a bit of CW rotation..the angle looks a touch uncomfy.
It needs to wipe it's beak too

Thanks.

I thought that but its the way the shadows and the edge of the mud are lying. The near foreground is about right I think.
If you try it at say 3 or 4 degrees, the foreground looks out to me.
Maybe I'm lop sided !
Cheers

Good intimate shot of the Snipe John. Not so easy to get of a squitish subject.

The shot works really well and is enhanced by the warm, low sunlight. The shadows falling on the background add extra interest and an extra dimension to the scene too.

Nice one John. Not easy to get near these relatively small birds.

Interesting shot indeed, I like it and yes, he does need a good clean-up!
