Tea Kettle Falls Pano (and repost)
I've often heard Tim E. say that the best time to shoot is when the weather is at it's worst. Well, that certainly held true on Tuesday when parts of Arkansas literally washed away (that's probably a good thing for the area around Fallsville, where the Rainbow family camped last year). I was able to cross Warm Fork Creek early Tuesday morning in order to hike into one of my favorite falls - Tea Kettle. But Warm Fork was a raging torrent by the time I left, so I had to take a long detour to get back home. I'm just glad I was able to get back home.

Anyway, the foggy appearance in this photograph is actually heavy rain. I watched the waterfall grow from a good flow to an amazing one. I'll post another shot later from the front. What a good day it was to be out in the Ozarks!

Beautiful, Bill! I think it's one of your best.

It's a clean image taken from a dramatic point of view, the panorama fits the subject well, the foggy appearence is a nice accent, and the rain gives a boost to the saturation of the leaves. Beautiful shot.

Just yesterday I was just discussing with a fellow photographer the odds of being able to ford that creek right now and figured they weren't so good. I'd say you were pretty lucky to have found a place you could make it back across.

Bill, I really like this shot. The pano format and silhouette of the cave's roof really enhance this scene. Beautiful! :toast:

Wow! Even the forest floor looks beautiful in this shot. For me the foggy appearance takes this photo to a whole other level.
Bill, can I ask a stupid question? Was this a stitch of multiple shots or a crop?

Thanks, guys. Tim - I really appreciate your comment about this being one of my best. I think this was one of the rare situations where everything came together while I was shooting. John - this is a 3 shot stitch...I plan to print it big.

This is really outstanding, Bill. I can only echo what has been said. Can't wait to see more!

Bill,

Wonderful shot - well worth the trip! The lines, everything comes together... :toast:

Bill,
Great shot! I've been there a few times but never was enough water. You have to be brave to go out in that kind of weather.
Good composition too!

nice one Bill.
Wish I had gotten out that day.

Bill, you nailed this one, way to go.

I think I must have gotten lazy and neglected to bring out some shadow detail under the ledge, which I think looks a little better in this version...

You're messing with perfection, Bill - to me those details don't see as important in this image.

Hey Bill, I've been in Colorado all week - did we get some rain here? Ha, ha! Remember, 44" x 96" is as long as you can go without a rip...
Posted by John Moore on March 21, 2008 at 9:03 AM
My half cent's worth, Bill, is that it was better without the shadow detail.

Tim B. and John - after looking at the repost for a while, I have to agree that the original is better. It does a better job of keeping my eye where the beauty is - out in the woods. Thanks for letting me know your thoughts too.

Tim E. - glad you all made it back from Colorado alright - hope you got a few pictures while you were there. We got so much rain here that water was spurting out of the ground everywhere you looked Tuesday afternoon...unbelievable.
