So I picked up a Canon G9 last Thursday. Friday, we headed out to SLC, Ut for a short trip. I put the G9 through a few paces with landscape and family snaps. Here are a few examples.
It's a nice, solid camera with lots of features. I'm still undecided though. It's quite a bit noisier, even at ISO 80, than I expected. I do like being able to process raw files. These have only been processed in LR. Noiseware probably could have cleaned up the noise better.
This first one is Pikes Peak after our morning dump last Friday as the storm cleared.

This is a tree that caught my eye as we were leaving my Dad's place in Wy on Saturday. This is near Ames Monument between Cheyenne and Laramie.

Last, sunset over the Great Salt Lake looking towards Antelope Island from my Father-in-Law's back porch.

Ok, just one more. A fun one. This is Roscoe in his favorite position - someone's lap.
I do like the color and detail in many of the shots. This was at ISO 200 and the noise is slight.
that is some back porch view your father-in-law has. Cute little puppy

Paul beat me on both counts. What a view, what a pooch! It's disturbing that you're having a noise issue at 80iso, however. The noise issue has seemed to be what most people warn about with this camera, so it must be a problem worth considering when deciding on a camera in this class.

Agreed, the pooch is adorable! I have been thinking about possibly replacing my ever reliable and now very old 4mp P&S that is a Minolta s414 (heck u can get em on ebay for a mere 25- these days) It has served me more than well and has allowed me incredible shots and memories. In reviewing I did look at the G9, and as stated, noise does seem to be a factor with this camera. I think what I am probably going to wind up doing is snagging a Sony R1 off of ebay...seeing as how it is outta production. But with that APS sized sensor and Zeiss lens, and cost about the same as a G9, (even in unopened box) the choice is pretty clear.
Interesting what ya said about Noisewear, I have always had a lotta trouble with that program myself...lol
