At the risk of being lynched by those who have been suffering through the cold Colorado winter, I'm going to post some pics from the past week in Hawaii. I'll post a few here and the rest can be seen at:

Great shots Grant, I especially like the second one, the lava almost looks metallic.

Grant ~ Is the first one sunrise at Haleakala? Just wondering since my wife and I are going to Kauau, Hawai'i and Maui in August. I've been there a few time but wasn't into photography at the time. The second was does have a gold sheen to it, is that just from the evening sun? Oh by the way, awesome shots!
Grant - the dried lava is outstanding! I love the tonal range and the way the grooves and fissures lead your eye all over the frame.Nicely done!

Very nice set Grant. Had me thinking of hopping on a plane for some lava shots. The lava flow was really far away and dangerous to reach when I was there in 05.

I love the lava-into-the-sea shot - very dramatic! Great shots...

Beautiful images. You're really getting me stoked for my honeymoon there at the end of the year!

Thanks for the comments!
Bert, the first one is sunset on Mauna Kea on the Big Island (that's the only island I visited). Haleakala is actually the volcano rising above the clouds in the distance. The second one was taken on a cloudy day, so it really is gold-colored. Other rocks in the area had some gold sparkle to them, but this small patch was really cool. I briefly thought I'd stumbled upon millions of $$$ in gold bars . It must be a relatively recent lava flow, as everything else was black and gray.

Awesome shots, Grant! Looks like you had an incredibly successful trip photo-wise. I really like pretty much all the photos. Your flash gallery is cool too.
