Hi everyone,

I have just purchased a new Nikon 105mm f/2.8 VR Micro Lens and I have a question! It's a little weird but here it goes anyhow;

1. I've set the D2Xs to aperture priority and opened the lens wide open which is f/2.8 as you know.

2. Then I set the focusing to manual and turn it clockwise - as I do this the aperture starts stepping down, by the time I've turned the ring fully its stopped down to f/4.8.

Is this normal on the lens or have I got a problem - the manual is no use! It also does this when auto focusing too!

Many thanks,

Hi It's normal for this lens it is only f2.8 at Infinity at macro ranges because of the design the aperture changes.

Phil.

Hi Ian,

I've been trying mine out for a couple of days in the studio to get a feel for it! So far I can get within 2ft 6in with an aperture of f/3 but not f/2.8. I need a working distance of around 4ft 3in to get it to open to f/2.8.

If you still got the lens try turning the focusing ring to infinity with the camera set to Av then see if it'll open up to maximum.
