Sometimes the "fluke" shots show up like this one. I was digging through images to upload to my website and completely forgot about this image I took back in August of 2006!
I never bother trying to photograph certain insects, especially one like this fellow. He just showed up in my viewfinder while I was trying to photograph another subject. I hope you like it - I was worried if the image would be clear and worthwhile since it was an overcast day.
Taken at F/8, 1/125 sec, ISO 400 with my 200mm macro lens. This is a heavy crop - 100%. I hope you enjoy it!
I think it's a fine shot, Marc. These are certainly interesting insects, and I see them often. Yours is probably one of the best photos I've seen of them. Great detail where it's important, and a pleasing bg. Nice work!
Great photo Marc! I, too, have always been fascinated by these moths. Every time I've seen them has been in the fading light after sunset. Your photo gives us a much closer view than I think we'd ever get with our own eyes.

Marc, I like it a lot. I've seen these guys before too, but never this close. Great detail!

Stunning detail Marc! A fortuitous moment well captured!
This is a "fluke" that's been sitting idly on your hard drive for almost two years?!?! Maybe I need to go back and look for "flukes." This is a nice shot with excellent details. I notice you mentioned that it's a heavy crop. I don't really think that's a big deal. It's not often I see the need to print small "wildlife" really big. Just like photos of the Grand Canyon don't look so good as a 4"x6".

Thanks Everyone for the kind comments!
Yes Dominic, it is VERY embarrassing to me...
I didn't think it was a good shot, so I passed it by. I generally go back and review all my shots 1-2 times a year to ensure I didn't miss something. The scary part is my wife thought it was great, and I hummed and hawed about it...
I've attached the full image for reference. Thanks again for the kind comments y'all!
