My wife and I are just starting to plan a July trip to Banff and Glacier NPs. We have no experience with the parks or the area.

We're planning to fly to Vancouver and then drive to ???

We're looking for a reputable Guide company or person that would be able to recommend hotels, plan an itinerary and then take us on a trip that would feature photo ops (including sunrise/sunset), easy-to-moderate hikes, and possibly some rafting/boating.

The duration would be something in the 7-10 day range.

Any suggestion, please, folks?

Thanks.

Well as far as driving, the loop you want to do is Highway 1 east from Vancouver to Highway 5A, north to Kamloops, through Kamloops on Highway 5 (Yellowhead Highway) to Highway 16 with a side trip to Wells Gray Provincial Park, then east on 16 to Jasper, then south on the Icefields Parkway to Lake Louise and / or Banff, then back west on Highway 1 back to Vancouver. Can be done just as easily in the opposite direction. If you want to maximize your time in the Rockies, go east on Highway 1 first, theres fewer places to stop and dawdle (at least there were for me).

Couldn't tell you about lodging because I always camp.

There are commercial rafting tours out of Lake Louise, Banff, Canmore, Jasper, Tete Jaune Cache, Clearwater, Golden, Kamloops, etc, so you'd have ample opportunity there. Boating is readily available at most of the big lakes in the big parks (Louise, Moraine, Minniwanka, Maligne, Bow, Emerald, etc).

Not sure about guide services, but I'm sure there are a ton. Try googling something like "banff eco tours" or something like that.

Lance: Contact Darwin Wiggett for Banff. He knows that area inside and out, and he leads workshops there. I'm not sure if does individual guiding but he might be persuaded. Can't help you with Glacier though I'm envious of your visit. It's one of my all-time favorite places! Have a great trip.
