Red Kite
Being in North(ish) Wales over the past week I drove down to Gigrin to see what the new hides where like. Although more expensive than the normal hides (£3) they are IMHO worth the extra money as they give you more flexibility. The ground hide (£10) has a much larger window that lets you track the birds of a tripod far better than out of the normal hide (especially when you are in it by yourself ) and the higher hide (£15) allows you to concentrate getting the birds against a green back ground (see post in the next couple of days). Both hides have a maximum number of allowed people so it would be better booking in advance.

For what it is worth this is the first time I have given the 1Ds3 a hard servo-focus work-out and, whilst it snaps to the BG a lot faster than the 1ds2 (you have to keep the focus sensor on the subject at all times), I have approximately the same amount of sharp focus keepers that I would have obtained out of the 1Ds2.

600mm/Tpod
F4.5/4000'/400asa/+1.66EV
Normal PS and cropped either side to square.

not much wrong with the focus on this one, a lovely shot. Nicely composed and I like the strong eye contact.

an uncommon PoV but very dramatic and works very well

I know how fast these are, so as you said keeping the Kite in say the centre focus box can be very hard.

You have done well with this image :toast:

Oh and i loved the "high hide" when i went. And i shall pay the £15 when i go there again

Hi Tom,

Excellent capture! I personally would have left a little more room on the right, for the bird to swoop into!

This is one fantastic image. The colours are stunning. Maybe a touch of bg noise?

Great shot. I don't mind the square crop, it quite suits the strong diagonal element.
