I knew I'd be a bit early for much wildflower hunting, but I did manage to find this specimen after shooting around some cascades in the Raven Run area. I'm not sure what species(a little help, please). Sorry, Don, I haven't bought the book you suggested, yet. Looks like it's time. I did see lots of evidence of wildflower potential, including Trillium, one of my favorites. I can't wait for the next few weeks.

By the way, I am coming to Arkansas this week, and I'll probably spend most of my time in the Ouachitas and maybe southern Ozarks. I haven't been around, so any suggestions for lively locations this week would be greatly appreciated.

Great detail in the photo! I went to King's Bluff about 30 minutes north of Russelville yesterday and it was magnificent! There were waterfalls everywhere and, as you said, signs of wildflowers. I found the place in Tim Ernst's waterfall guide book. - scott

Hi Dominic,

When you FINALLY purchase that Kentucky book that I recommended, you'll find your wildflower on p. 50. It is called sharp-lobed hepatica, Hepatica acutiloba. Found in rich woods, statewide, common.

Nice pic!

Have fun in AR.

Those are beautiful blooms, Dominic, and nice that you composed one open and one closing up. I like the balance. Nice shot.

I thought I recognized those flowers... we shot a lot of Hepatica in Lost Valley last year at Tim E's wildflower workshop. Nice take with the open/closed combination, Dominic. If you're interested I can recommend a couple of areas in the Ouachitas where I've found Ozark Wake Robin and Trout Lily right next to the road; and there are some great views too.

A nice duo Dominic. Nice use of the bg to set off these two views of the bloom. Thanks for posting!

Very nice combination Dominic. Two areas in the Ouachitas that I always find interesting are:

1. The LIttle Missouri River area and the Winding Stairs Creek trail.

2. The Cossatot River State park. The falls area is always interesting.

Nice shot Dominic! I like the one open and one closed and sharp detail. Have a good trip over!
