Hi Mark,
Welcome! and nice first post! It would be nice to see some tech though! and I'd crop so the subject wasn't quite central!

Agree with Paul, a less centred position would make the image even better!

Presumably Mark you place the central sensor over the bird.
If you dont use Focus Lock use the buttons on the side of your lens(That is if its the same as the 300. 400, 500. 600 lens) and momentarily lock the focus then reposition to place the bird off centre. Perhaps you all ready knew that though. If so disregard me woffling on.
Otherwise you got your Greenfinch well.
hi thanks. , this was using my Nikon D300 200-400VR at 400mm, ISO 320 shutter speed 1/125. matrix meeting.
the image is already cropped slightly. hope thats what you mean by tech
and thanks for the feedback, I'll have a play in photoshop with the positioning.
yep I placed the focus point directly on the birds in all my pics, i haven't played around with the focus lock buttons on the lens yet..
but thanks for the tip, i will give it a go next time.

Welcome, and a very nice first post.
Best wishes

Nice Bg and attitude from the subject. Apart from re-positioning the bird, I feel it would benefit from being larger in the frame.
