Distant Gannet
Went to Knockadoon Head recently to look for Choughs, Hares and Fulmars. Very few signs of life in a northerly gale. Only a few bits at distance (Black Throated Diver, Razorbills and Guillies). Got this gannet at distance but in good light. Not the worlds greatest shot by any means but makes me think of the summer ahead. 40D, Sigma 500mm 4.5 MJ

I really like this Michael. I think it could be improved by cloning over the sea with the sky. I say clone as opposed to crop because I like the proportions of the shot and cropping may loose this IMO.

Hi MJ,

I like it too! but I'd crop it in proportion, say 10 x 8 just above the horizon and the rule of thirds could still apply!

I think i like it with the small stroke of the sea, it makes the compostion, but the bird could have been a tiny bit larger in the frame.

I'd leave the sea in too, but it would benefit from the bird being larger in the frame, IMO.

Cheers for the feedback and advice folks. I have added a version with the sea cloned out and I don't think it's as good. The gannet seems a little lost in the blue.

Cheers MJ

Hi MJ,

I think you're right better with the sea in the frame!
