Hungry Cooper's Hawk
This young Cooper's hawk ( I think!) spent an hour devouring a chunk of blood and bones that might have been a bird in a previous life, anyway it ignored me as I took a couple of hundred pics.

You weren't out in Wheat Ridge today were you? I noticed a lot of folks after hawks today where I was.

Jay, this was near my house in Fort Collins, my wife saw the hawk before I did so I ran home and grabbed my gear and spent an hour filming while he/she casually ate a large dinner. He/she was still there when I ran out of batteries and memory. I saw him/her a couple of days ago on a rooftop and again didn't have my camera right there. He/she needs to get more scared of people.

It's a beauty of a shot. Do you have any objections to PSing that blade of grass that crosses behind his beak? It's distracting, and wouldn't be missed in the least. I'd also remove the ones in the lower right corner, just to clean it up.

Beautiful shot, Bill! I agree with Todd about removing some of the distractions.

I can go along with calling it a Coopers - stripes are pretty fine and the lower belly is mostly white. No distinct eye-stripe either.

Look at that crop!! Nothing like a good meal to quell the hunger pains.

Nice shot!

Nice shot, Bill. Love the light patterns on the bird and head angle! :toast:

Todd, you are right I should clean it up a little, I showed it quickly without tweaking it since I liked it. My local Audubon bird expert confirms its a juvenile Coopers hawk.

thanks all,

Bill
