Above Cashmere
Well this is about as good as the sky got two days ago when Margareta and I climbed C ridge (we have taken to calling it that because of the huge Cashmere "C" embedded into it's grassy slopes.) after work. By sunset proper the clouds had mostly dissipated and this is was the best image of the evening. Working out a FG on this sagebrush ridge was a challenge and I finally settled on these two Serviceberry silhouettes. Do you think the FG is too dark? What about the off-center comp and the heavy cloud over the Enchantments?

Comments appreciated.

Sony R1, 2 exposure blend, 1/1600 & 1/320 @ f/16, no filters.

Marc, the FG is too dark for me here. The ray of light in the clouds is nice but I am not sure on the two bushes on the left side. You have much better images and this is just not up there with them IMO.

Well, Marc, I view this image just as I do our Winter/Spring weather this year. It's struggling to make up its mind about Winter lingering or, hopefully (the bright sunbreak area) Spring taking charge. I think the fg is a bit dark. The cloud bank over the Enchantments is so somber. The image makes quite a statement about mood.
I just noticed that when I remove the white surround from the image, it's much more appealing to me. So if you do print it, perhaps just a frame, without a mat, would do it well? That's what I see...

I agree with Adrian - this one isn't working for me at all. It's certainly a VERY active sky but all together it's very jumbled. The foreground indeed is too dark too. I like the rays of light so I SEE what you were going for here but in the end it isn't working for me Adrian.

Man it sure sux to bust butt to the top of a ridge to get that pre-conceived shot in yer head only to have mother nature poopoo the whole thing. Been there done that and WILL do it again and again...

And the first sing of insanity is WHAT again??!! :jump: :jump: :jump:

I hear that. I wonder how often each of us, respectively, gets skunked when we go out? Sounds like a good topic for a thread.

Oh well, I didn't have high hopes for this one, but it's always instructive to have these fence-sitters (well, any image) seen by other eyes. Thanks, friends.

If the foreground were lighter to allow more details of the mountains, it would be a definite improvement... Sky is really something...

The vista your chasing here looks like it is worth more trips Marc, the lighting was just a bit off on this one. Catch those mountains with the lighting just right and I'll bet it will be nice!

the sky looks funky in my opinion.....and I do feel the foreground is a bit on the dark side...

I don't care for the way the hills go up on both sides and leave nothing in the middle except a branch or twigs sticking straight up...
