Springtime in the Rockies
I love Colorado and Colorado weather!
I took my son skiing at Breckenridge yesterday. Left Divide about 7:30 and it was 38 degrees with the forecast predicting 60's in COS and 70's in Pueblo. I expected warm spring skiing.

As we headed over Hoosier pass, it was evident this part of the state had been getting recent snow, lots of it! As we hit the slopes it was snowing, very windy, and in the 20's. The snow was heavy enough and the wind stong enough to produce some nice white-outs now and then. Just a reminder how different the weather can be across the state. By afternoon the sun had broken out and it was beautiful, but a few inches of snow was predicted for summit county. Plenty of sunshine in Park and Teller county! Gotta love it!

As we headed home and crested Wilkerson pass, Pikes Peak stood out clear as a bell, very little haze, with pretty low cumulus accenting the scene. It looked like sunset was going to be nice, so I decided to head up to Rampart Range Road.

Here are a couple of shots. We didn't get very dramatic skies but having clouds at sunset was nice. Plus the sun is far enough north to light the north face a little.

This first one was shot about 6pm, an hour or so before sunset.
Canon 20D, Tamron 28-75 f/2.8, 2 stop GND (handheld). Single exposure processed in DxO and LR

This was shot just before sunset, near 7pm. I was hoping the skies would get more color but it never happened, too clear I guess. Still the clouds and trees got some nice warm light and it was nice to have clouds at sunset.

Canon 20D, Tamron 28-75 f/2.8, polarized (little much) and 3 stop GND, Processed through DxO and CS3 with a 3 exposure blend (2/3 stop bracket)

I thought about heading up there because of the clouds yesterday too. Unfortunately, I had an obligation in the evening and was afraid a photo outing would take more time than I planned (as it usually does).

The first shot is particularly nice, but the stray branch coming in the corner could be cloned or cropped out. Great light in that shot.

I like the contrast and comp of the second one. Good work Kalin.

Nice images. I like the clouds in the second image.
