A week ago I went winter camping for two nights in the West Needle Mountains near Molas Pass. Despite the very cold and windy weather, it was a very productive trip photographically.
This I think is my favorite from the trip (though it's hard to pick). It was Easter morning; I hiked to the summit of a thirteener via moonlight and took this shot of the dawn glow over the Needles Range. I dig the simplicity and minimalist feel of this one.
Some great shots indeed! I'm with Stan on #862. That's one sweet shot. I also really like your camp photo. Sounds like an amazing trip!

Fantastic image, Jack. I love the ethereal mood of it. I checked out the others too. Really nice stuff. I'm so impressed that you haul your LF gear up and down the mtns the way you do.

Great shots!! I really like the colors in #860.

Yowsas! Some great shots! I must admit that the last time I climbed a 13er by moonlight in winter with my LF gear, I didn't come away with nearly such good shots .

Awesome stuff Jack!!! Talk about a room with a view!
860 & 862 are my favorites. The Alpen glow in 862 is Huge!
gee I haven't been up at 13,000 feet in quite a while (couple years for me now) and here you are doing it in winter and by moonlight. Great shot, I really like 860 & 862
Very nice. Nice & coooooooold. I like all of these. really like your tent shot since the warmth of the tent provides a nice contrast in the image.

You have several unique and beautiful shots. Thanks for sharing.

These are all nice! Certainly a novel approach to a photo shoot that few will be trying to do. Especially with a 4X5. Not only impressive photos, but an impressive endevour!
Personal favs for me are 865 and the tent shot aong with the one you posted here.
You knocked it out of the park on this little outing, Jack! There's a lot of great stuff here, and the lead image keeps growing on me. Just enough information to keep me staring at it; and I like black and empty space - great work!

OMFG, this is so impressive! I like 862 and 863 the most, but your tent inner-glow shot is something to behold.
And because I'm a stickler for such things, it's the West Needle Mountains and Needle Mountains (as opposed to Grenadier Range), not the Needles/West Needles Range.

One more thing: It looks like you also got Eolus, just left of center in #865. Very cool.

Thanks again for your comments!
Todd - Thanks for pointing out those naming details... I've been naming the Needle Mountains the Needles Range for years now... d'oh! I guess I should comb through my site and correct that.

Needle and West Needle Mountains, Grenadier Range, Elk and West Elk Mountains, Sawatch Range, Mosquito Range, Sangre de Cristo Mountains (although this one I've seen so commonly listed as Range - even by me! - that it's almost interchangeable now, but Mountains is correct), Front Range, San Juan Mountains, San Miguel Mountains, Sneffels Range, La Plata Mountains, Park Range, Mummy Range, Gore Range (can you see my brain scanning around the state?!), etc.
Hey, I'm nothing if not anal retentive. I could probably still tell you the names of every member of Blue Oyster Cult, REO Speedwagon, Yes, Rush, UFO, Foreigner, Heart, and just maybe, even Emerson, Lake and Palmer!
861 is my fav, it has a feeling that a mystery is about to be unveiled, as more light enters the scene. I also really like the lit tent photo as well as the others. You have got to be the only LF guy in the US overnighting on 13'rs in winter, not to mention one of the few using 35mm or digital. That is dedication to getting the shot!

Love them all, Jack! But, #860 is tops for me. The colors and the feel of isolation and the coming cold... great stuff!

Your work is an inspiration (and a reminder that I don't get out and do as much as I should...).
I think this is marginally the best of the lot, but I also like 860, 862, and the tent shot.

So glad the weather forecast held for you.
