I was looking through some of my old posts and came across something that might have been forgotten in the transition to new moderators...

In '06-'07 we did a hanging down at the Great Sand Dunes Visitor Center; Adam indicated at the time that they were interested in having us again for the '08-'09 season. Last time we had two "shifts", one in the fall, and one in the spring. We should probably get in contact with them again to see if they're still interested in having us back.

Whoa, thought someone was coming after all of us for Photographic Crimes Against Humanity with a title like that...

I, on the other hand, immediately thought Erik was caught rustling horses in Rocky Mtn Nat. Park.

How about the Colorado State Capital? We had two great years of that, then it all dried up. I'd love to see us all have a chance at that location again. Another thing to consider are, Castlewood Canyon, RMNP Visitor's Center, of course the Dunes. Does Black Canyon have a good facility? I think we need to consider a lot of options to go after.

In any case I'm up for a display somewhere now. We have a much bigger member base too which means we could do a longer shifting showing in multiple locations at the same time.

I'd love to do the State Capital again; I don't know what it would take to get back in there, but last time I believe we had some help from Bill P. I don't know staff there, but I do know a few legislators who might be able to get me some info.

For all that I go to RMNP, I don't go into the visitor's centers very often, so I don't know about picture hanging facilities. It's something for someone to look into (I believe last year was an anniversary year and they didn't have any space available, but the insinuation was that they did have some space...).

The Dunes seems like the easiest placement since they already said they wanted us back this year...

Need Bill P to chime in. But I think that security requirements at the capital have changed. Especially since that nutcase broke into the governors office.

As far as the dunes go we need to hear from Adam since he organized this one last year.

The new security requirements at the Capitol Building there probably keep alot of the random looky-loos out. But it would be cool to have hangings (of pictures  ) int he Capitol again.

Regarding the State Capitol display, a lot of work was done behind the scenes to continue that venue, however, all involved felt that it is no longer a viable option. Sorry, we didn't post all the gory details, but the bottom line is that the Capitol Adivsory Committee is chaired by a former state senator that just plain doesn't want ANYTHING on display at the capitol. So, the new rules reflect his position. Displays, of any kind, in the Rotunda are prohibited. Displays anywhere else require liability insurance coverage @ about $500 for the event - no waiver possible - believe me, we tried. During the first two years my wife, Edna - Manager of Visitors Services at the Capitol, was able to get a waiver for our group.

Although we could find a way to raise the money to cover the insurance, we felt that the message was quite clear....these exhibits are not welcome. Also, the lighting in the Rotunda was poor, however, the North or South wing alternatives are dismal dungeons. With these factors in mind, all of those who were invovled in coordinating the previous exhibits decided to withdraw the application.

Bill - thanks for the update.

Maybe someone on the forum knows of another building that would be suitable and accommodating for such a show?

How about the County Building Across the street?

I would say the Pioneer Building down in the Springs, but I know they would be even pickier than anything that everything would have to be of the Pikes Peak region. A State park exhibit would be nice too.

Patrick Myers is the ranger that you want to contact at GSDNPP. He coordinated the display there last year. I don't have his email but I'm sure that Richie or René could call the visitor center and get in touch with him. Adam may have his email.

On a related note, I still have a lot of undecorated walls in the new house; feel free send me prints and I'll be happy to hang them. I'll even send pics once the install is complete!
