Hey folks,
I seem to remember reading in someones review that the center autofocus with their D2X, Nikon 200-400mm, and a 1.7X Nikon teleconverter was still able to function. Could this be possible? What about with a D300? Just interested. I'm probably still not going to buy the teleconverter but I was curious. Thank you.

I do it all the time. I still prefer the 1.4x though.... but they both work fine.

The 1.7 stuggles in lower light sometimes, but gets there eventually, with theD300 - have not used a D2x. .
I also still prefer the 1.4 wih the 200-400..
Keep an eye on KehPhoto.com for good used lenses and stuff.

I have used the 1.7x with the 200-400 in conjunction with the D2X, D300, and the D3. All combinations were ok except at very low light and then all combinations were very slow and sometimes not very adequate. I like Sandy perfer the 1.4x.

Yes the 1.7x works, I have it almost glued to my 200-400mm - I've managed it in low light but it can be frustrating. I shot this image with that combo;

The 1.4x is flawless!
