I will be in the Murrel inlet area for the week of Aug 1 thru the 6th. If anyone is interested in going photoshooting with me or lead me in the direction of where to get some great shots let me know. Thanks in advance.
Hi Jim!! I'm not familiar at all with the area except having gone through it once but I thought if you contacted their Chamber of Commerce (most likely on the internet), they might steer you to some good spots. Good luck and have fun and make sure you post your shots here!!
Hi Jim--
I live in SC- the Columbia area, middle of the state- but have been visiting the MYB area all my life. You will have a great opportunity for lots of different shots. You may want to visit Huntington Beach State Park or Brookgreen Gardens. We usually stay in the Garden City area, which is across the inlet from Murrells Inlet, If you can make a trip over to the Garden City Pier they have bands at night and there are awesome sunrises on the beach!!! I think you will be about a week before the full moon(but don't take my word for it), but the moon coming up over the ocean is really cool too. For sunsets, come over to the Garden CIty side of the inlet and look back over toward Murrells Inlet. Check out the Georgetown County website for a multitude of things to see and do, many of them free. Also, the docks in Georgetown are good for some photos of boats, birds, etc. Go down to the Independent Fish House and take some shots of the shrimp boats. There is a marina right there in Murrells Inlet where you can rent boats and jet skis and also take some other excursions. But be prepared--the humidity in SC is killer!!!!
Please let me know if you have any other questions and I'll try to guide to the best resource. We look forward to your visit to the Palmetto State--Smiling Faces, Beautiful Places.....
I second Huntington Beach....I have been there twice with my college to go birding. There are a lot of different ecosystems there. Freshwater marsh, tidal saltwater marsh, jetti on the beach. Most of the birds there are very tame as the park gets a lot of traffic. It would be the first place I'd go for some good Avian photography!
