Interesting things hare appening in the Lightroom world this morning. They just released a beta of Lightroom 2.0 with lots of new features: non-destructive dodge and burn, aspects of PhotoKit Sharpener implemented, increased max pixels of 30k up from 10k, multiple-monitor support, etc, etc.
This is a beta 1 version as they want as much input as possible, especially after their most recent fiasco with update 1.4. Its fun to see what is coming down the pipeline. You can find information at the following links:
Hopefully Nat will chime in with some better information about these changes.

I saw that this morning - quite the buzz. I've seen several comments/warnings that this Beta version is NOT recommended for any kind of production use - there are no guarantees of forward compatibility. So keep that in mind...
I've downloaded and installed and will play with it a bit "on location" this weekend.

Sounds like a nice upgrade. Should be fun to play with.
Mike, the nice thing with this is that it runs separately from your main catalogs. You have to import new photos into it to play around with the new features, so it won't mess up your main system like the 1.4 did. I have a feeling that they will be much more hesitant in putting out new patches after that mess.
It sounds like the full Lightroom 2.0 is scheduled to be released at some point in June, hopefully with most of the bugs fixed by then. Let's hope!

I think I'll wait a few days. I got sucked into 1.4 and that update caused nothing but problems. I lost a little faith in Adobe over that one.
This looks to be a huge upgrade.. addressing many of the most requested features and positioning Lightroom solidly at the core of modern digital photography. But the final release won't come for a few months yet.
If you're ultra-curious, give it a try. Just don't do anything in this beta version that you can't afford to lose in the long term. Many of these features are still being worked out, and as Adobe states, the code may not carry over to the final release version.
Overall I think it's a very exciting announcement. I've been working with it today and like what I see so far. But it's just software and only part of the complete picture. Keep in all in perspective...

No but it looks like you can select multiple files in LR and open/export them at once into Photoshop's stitch mode.
