Balsamroot in Nahahum Canyon
1980 was an epic year in NCW. The spring flowers, including this Balsamroot I shot in Nahahum Canyon just east of Cashmere, were the best anyone could remember. They literally carpeted the hillsides in solid colors for months, first the small early species then the Balsamroot and Lupines, followed by the Phlox and Desert Parsley, etc., etc.

I'm too busy to get out for photography currently; thought you might enjoy this old Kodachrome scan.

Nice, hope to make it to North Cascades at some point.

Wow, now that's some Balsamroot. Looks almost florescent.

That's cool, Marc - especially that it's one from the archives!

Wish I had been there. As it was, however, I was 1 year old at the time.

Wow, 1980! I was still in high school and had yet to visit the northwest. That is an amazing carpet of balsamroot. I hope we have a good year again. I really like this photo I took in 2006, but it has some issues at full-size and I'd love to try again this spring.

Nice, John! I hope you had a chance to wander down to that solid yellow vein of them on the left.

Where is this? Looks like Yakima area or south or of there.
