I am stuck! i am looking at getting a macro lens and have found 2 that look OK, i am not going to do that much macro as have never tried it and i cant afford the 150 or 180 Sigmas at the mo, so its between
Tamron 90mm F2.8 and Sigma 105 F2.8
Anyone got any of these??? any suggests, got a budget of under £200
Hi Andy both are very good lenses in fact even some of the extremely cheap Vivitar and the like for around £90 are all good at being a macro lens as I don't think anybody makes a bad macro nowadays, I actually preferred the Sigma which I have.
As a big macro fan and having had the chance to test most lenses i must say that optically the Sigma is best but i would advise you to save up your moeny a bit longer for the Sigma 150mm F2.8 as the 105mm has a very slow engine and extends extremely long when working with it..
The Tamron is not bad at all, but you need to get very close to your subjects making it harder to work well with this lens.
My advise...wait a little longer and buy the Sigma 150mm F2.8!
You can get one a lot cheaper from Hong Kong by the way! If you are interested just send me a PM as i know someone who ships these lenses from Hong Kong.
I have a Tamron 90 and its a great amazingly sharp lens, Yes abit extra reach would be nice but then the price goes through the roof, In tests the Sigma and Tamron come out equal,The difference in focal length is minimal so you pays your money etc etc

The SIgma 150 is the way to go. Check out EBAY, i saw an offer for one for apporx £325.

Definately go for the longer option, either 150 or 180.... the added working distance is a great benefit and DoF is identical given the same magnification......

If I had to choose between these two lenses. Then my choice would be without a doubt be the Sigma 105mm f/2.8!
