Purple sandpiper in the surf
In my opinion the most overlooked and "under" photographed wader specie. They are one of the first to return to their breeding grounds and i found a number of them in Vardo along the only known "beach" measuring 20 meters wide and 3 meters deep!. They never sit still and are fast runners.

Thanks Rene,
I really enjoyed seeing this image. Excellent composition and colours, and I just love the way you've caught him 'on tip toes' on one foot! Great reflection too.
I aspire to making images such as this, and learn a lot by seeing such great images on this brilliant forum.
Best regards,
John

Hi Rene a fine image of as you say a very underrated bird. I do get them occasionally locally but they tend to be a very nervous bird in my area possibly due to all the disturbance they get from walkers and dogs along the beach.

Hi Rene
Looks like you have the hang of the Nikon-Lovely exposure/colours and the position of the birds feet/legs really make for a great image

Very nice shot, Rene - I like the motion you get from the raised foot. I think the specie is a bit underrated because few are seen around in summertime. Remember Iceland which is a breeding stronghold, but we just saw the odd one or two of them up there last year! :wavey:

Hi Rene,

Very nice, very nice indeed! Beautiful capture! I love these birds but I have noticed a decline in numbers visiting my local beaches especially on the West coast!

Great shot of this species Rene. The sense of movement is captured well and the D3 colours look good.

Great action capture Rene :toast:

I'd have to say there's a couple of OoF highlights along the top edge that I might be tempted to negate

I don't know about 'underphotographed' - apart from sanderlings and turnstones they seem to be the most photographed wader on this forum!
Lovely shot!
