Back in December I got myself stuck in a snowdrift along Highway 96 north of Westcliffe. After my shovel shattered into a bunch of unusable pieces, I resorted to using a snowshoe to dig out, extricating myself later only with the help of a passerby. At the time I stomped all through the snow looking for that snowshoe, to no avail. I've stopped by that spot a few times in the intervening months, but there had always been too much snow remaining. Well, I'll be darned if today I didn't go by there and find that snowshoe still sitting there! Aside from a little (okay, a lot) of sirt, it was none the worse for wear.
Here's a few shots from this morning to celebrate.

Last one, really. The fog was kinda weird. It was way down in the valley where it was a struggle to find anything decent for a foreground. Made the best of the strange conditions, all the while putting dozens of miles on the truck just looking for comps on the backroads around Westcliffe.

Ummm.... Dang. And you cared about the snowshoe after these shots?
Great shots! I too like #2 and 5. Were these from this morning or from your December trip? There doesn't seem to be too much snow. Again, beautiful shots!
I actually like the last one the best....and the technical term is "snirt".

Todd,
That is amazing that your shoe was still there! What a great way to celebrate the day with these awesome shots! #2 is my favorite. I really like that unique perspective with the trees and fog in the foreground.

All are nice, but #2 is my favorite! I once found a pair of sunglasses in the woods I lost six months earlier, but now they are lost again. It has been a few years, so I fear it may be for good.
Congrats on finding the snowshoe and great pics once again!
I just got back from guiding my brother and sis-in-law around Arches and Canyonlands. In the process I kind of "forgot" I set my Gitzo 1348-Foba Superball combination on the ground while taking a photo of them in front of Turret Arch Friday morning. I didn't notice it was missing until Sat morning while loading up to go out to DeadHorse Point. After a failed sunrise at DHP we drove to Arches Visitor Center and checked with the Lost and Found. THEY HAD IT! Boy, was I happy to see it, some good soul dropped it off and didn't even leave a name, so I have no one to thank except the NPS.

The deer portrait is incredible! ...with the fog and just a touch of warm light. Awesome.

#2 is especially sweet.
