Evening hammer
Taken last evening quite late in the last of the sunlight. I find these birds a pain to get the head right on, so I under exposed by two stops. Turned out about right I reckon.. With a bit of a tweak in Paint Shop Pro 7
I've got 9, 10 and 10 x but I learn slow !
640 ISO Contrast down 1
Sigma 50-500mm
f8
Cheers

I would be very happy with this shot. Good job on exposure I agree getting the head right isnt easy. I have subsequently looked at a few of my yellowhammer shots and the head is overexposed in most cases. So I will be stopping down the next time I am close to one.
I like the fact you can see the stage of moult with all its feathers except a couple of primarys looking very worn.
Nice One John.

Excellent shot John. It looks like that shadow was probably on your side as well when you exposed this.
