More Spring Hills
I wanted to get another post from the Flint Hills excursion I took this last Saturday. I spent most of the time driving and exploring locations for future trips. I came across this area where a valley ran down between some hills. The sides of these hills were covered in patches of this reddish brush. I'm not sure yet what it is yet, (possibly sumac) I will have to check for sure.

I took this shot later in the morning (hence the harsh light). I would say this area also is about 2 weeks past the spring burn, you can still see quite a few blackened areas. Like so many landscape shots, (at least from my experience) I find it difficult to properly convey the grandeur of this location onto print, or in this case onto the monitor.
For some reference, the tree located center and approx. 2/3 into the scene is in a deeper creek bottom and I estimate around 30 feet high. All the brush through out the hill sides are 4-6 feet high. It was really great hiking down through this seeing the old burnt grasses being replaced with new green growth while meandering through this brush. It was really cool!

Hey Brad, looks like you're scouting out some good locations for when things green up. As usual, I wanted to get out in the Flint Hills last weekend to scout myself but just couldn't justify the time to do so. I'm looking forward to seeing some summer green shots in the sweet light from you. Keep 'em coming!

Hey Brad, I like the perspective of the shot. Yes, it will look better later in the year, but, this is a good establishment shot of what the flint hills look like. My wife grew up in central and south/central Kansas and loves the flint hills and tall grass prairies. Nice DOF extending into the horizon.
