Two owls
I went out in my PJs to get my morning paper and in the neightbor's tree were these two owls. I thought they were hawks until I got my 300mm lens on them. Since I'm no expert on owls, can anyone enlighten me as to what kind of owl these are? Comments appreciated.

And - yeah I was still in my PJs when I made the shots. Nice and cool, too - 43 degrees, no time for a jacket.

Lou, can you present this image any larger? The posture and outline of the bird on the left says "hawk" to me. The bird on the right looks more "owlish" but I can't distinguish its features. Also, where are you located?

Yup - I didn't pay enough attention to the guidelines, I guess. I'll redo it.

Thanks for posting this Lou. I'd like to see it larger as well, I agree that its very tough to make things out at the present size.

I blew this image up and though blurry, they look like hawks. It doesn't look like their chests are broad enough to be an owl.
Please re post.

OK - my bad! I now believe you are all correct. I Googled images for "owls" and "hawks" and, though I'm not sure what kind they are, I believe both birds to be "hawks". Should have done that first, I guess.

A larger posted image would be helpful, Louis, but I'll agree with the others as well and say that they appear to be hawks.
