Started off shooting red winged blackbirds, checked out a Great Horned Owl's nest but it was sitting on its chicks and dozing, shot a hovering kestrel, got real close to a wet coyote but no pics, got some great avocet shots and then filmed a young bald eagle flying at very close range while it tried to catch a squirrel.
Good news, the squirrel made it, it was stranded on a railroad signal of all things and then came down slowly, as it made its way slowly away the eagle suddenly dived on it but the squirrel was smart and escaped. Meantime I was wet with snow after a long wait. But I got some shots.

Great shots! Love the eagle image and the reflection of the avocet. Where did all this happen?
The eagle looks more like a Golden Eagle to me. I don't see any white patches on the underwing, and the 'golden' nape feathers are pretty distinct. Maybe the white patches are not apparent from this angle. Either way it's a great shot.
Dan, avocets are common on an insignificant place called Duck lake in Fort Collins, its on 392 west of i25. The eagle I agree with Arlen, is a golden (why then do we have golden's nesting in a cottonwood tree for goodness sake!). Not sure I want to disclose its nesting site.
There is a well known golden eagle nest near Watson lake in Ft C though if you want to go there. On a cliff above the lake.
